In “Sicily: Welcome to The Revolution,” Eric Guido claims that Sicily is going through a “Golden Age” of wine-making/producing and says, “I find myself inspired by so much of what I’m tasting from a purity standpoint, a varietal standpoint and a focus on terroir…The best part is that, overall, the wines are still an amazing value.”

He reviews the following wines:

MORGANTE Nero d’Avola Riserva 2018 – 90 points

“A dark and seductive mix of mocha, balsam herbs, medicinal black cherry and clove make the 2018 Nero d’Avola Riserva hard to resist. It’s soft-textured with ripe black fruits offset by brisk acids, as fine-grain tannins slowly saturate toward the close. This finishes structured and classically dry, leaving notes of currant and spice with mineral underpinnings. The 2018 needs a bit more cellaring to integrate its tannins. That said, it’s a dark beast of a Nero d’Avola.”

MORGANTE Bianco di Morgante 2021 – 89 points

“The 2021 Bianco di Morgante is a varietal Nero d’Avola vinified white, with a seductive bouquet that blends ripe orchard fruits with white flowers, sweet spice and hints of vanilla bean. It’s round with medium-bodied weight and a brilliant mix of sour citrus and zesty acids that tantalize the senses, while leaving a salty staining of minerality to linger.”

MORGANTE Nero d’Avola 2019 – 89 points

“The 2019 Nero d’Avola entices, as crushed chalk gives way to dusty dried violets, black currants and hints of smoke. This is fruit-focused and lively in character with energizing acidity and ripe wild berry fruits. It finishes remarkably fresh, while leaving inner rose tones and hints of hard red candies to linger. What a pretty Nero d’Avola.”
